Likurai dance, a Tetun cultural heritage, danced by the children of the new settlers* in East Nusa Tenggara. Likurai dance is originally danced by the women to welcome the men coming back from the war. Tetun/Tetum is the largest ethnic group in what is now Timor Leste. Some Tetun descendants are now living in Indonesia, after their decision to remain as Indonesian citizens - when the majority of East Timorese decided to split from Indonesia and established the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste in 1999.
*the term of 'new settlers' refers to the ex-East Timor refugees settling in Indonesia. |
